The company was formed in 1995, as a result of the merger of the Aircraft Handling Divisions of Saudi Tourist & Travel Bureau, (STTB), the Kanoo travel Agency and Darwish Travel. UNASCO became the first fully autonomous and independent ground handler.
In 1998, the minority interests of Darwish Travel were purchased by the two major shareholders and the aircraft handling division of Areen Travel Agency was merged with UNASCO.
In
july 2003, a majority shareholding in the company was purchased by National
Flight Services.
UNASCO retains its position as the largest ground handling agency in the Kingdom.
Twenty four hour operational coverage is maintained throughout the year at Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.
